Foundation face-2-face meeting

At the end of January and the beginning of February the Foundation team were able to get together for a series of face-2-face meetings. The Foundation team are normally physically distributed around the globe, so getting together in person really makes a difference. These face-2-face meetings were particularly significant since it was the first time that our newest recruits Amy Parker and Jon Ericson had attended one.

Our first stop was in Brno in the Czech Republic where we were kindly hosted by our colleagues in the OpenSSL Corporation in their new office. We took the opportunity while we were there to have some joint sessions with the Corporation.

After three days of meetings we relocated to Brussels where we spent the weekend attending the FOSDEM conference. This was such a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with the wider open source community. Amy also gave a fascinating talk about fundraising for open source projects, and you can read more about this (and watch the video of the talk) in our earlier blog post.

We finished up with two more days of meetings before we all headed back to our respective parts of the world.

We covered a huge amount of ground in our time together and covered lots of different topics (both in our Foundation face-2-face discussions and in our joint discussions with the OpenSSL Corporation). Some of those discussions have already resulted in some announcements and changes such as

We also talked about the upcoming elections for the Foundation TAC (Technical Advisory Committee) as well as the OpenSSL Conference, both of which you will be hearing more about very soon. Other discussions enabled us to think more strategically about the Foundation and its longer term objectives.
